Lazurite in Marble - Sar-e-Song, Afghanistan
An excellent example of Lazurite from one of the longest continuously operating mining areas in the history of the world. Lazurite, the mineral that makes lapis lazuli blue, has been mined in the Kokcha Valley near Sar-e-Sang for at least 9,200 years. Once more valuable and more highly prized than Gold, the pigment made from this mineral can be found in ancient artworks in Europe and Egypt, and those same mines still operate today. Here is a fantastic example of the colour held in the highest regard for the species! The specimen comes mounted and labeled, ready for your display.
