In this case, the Iron Sulfide Pyrite. Gleaming brass yellow isometric crystals are scattered along the outside edge of the contact zone, trapped within the forming Quartz matrix.

As the geochemistry slowly changed and all the Iron Sulfides had formed, the remaining Silicon Dioxide continued to form and crystallise within a trapped gas pocket. The result is remarkable: Quartz crystals deposited on the surface of the Quartz/Pyrite matrix.

A well-sized reference specimen that clearly shows a textbook example of a particular geological process.
