Cinnabar - Tongren Mine, China
A delightful specimen of one of the first minerals that humans learned how to process, from one of the longest producing deposits known to man. This is Cinnabar, a Sulfide of Mercury. The deposit around the city of Tongren in Guizhou Province, China, has produced Cinnabar (and thus, liquid elemental Mercury metal) for at least 3,000 years. Wonderful contrast of an exceptionally well-crystallized bright red Cinnabar against cream-colored Dolomite crystals and glassy colorless crystals of Quartz. Specimen comes mounted and labeled, ready for your display.
